Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel | Hampshire
Steeped in history and dating back more than 500 years, the grade II listed Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel is one of the oldest wedding venues in Southampton and the oldest hotel in the city.
A LITERARY WEDDING VENUE
The fabulous Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel has harboured many famous names of yore. William Shakespeare and his company reportedly performed plays in the hotel’s yard; British novelist, Thomas Hardy, referred to the hotel in his novel The Trumpet Major; and William Thackery wrote his novel, The History of Pendennis, whilst sitting in the hotel and gazing out on Southampton from its bay windows (said to be the largest bay windows in England). It’s also the venue in which another literary great, Jane Austen, celebrated her 18th birthday. With such a strong literary history, it’s a perfect wedding venue for literary fans or simply for those seeking character with style.
Beautifully refurbished to create an elegant, contemporary feel, whilst retaining some of its most striking original features, including the original beams in the stables’ rooms and the huge curved bay windows at the front, the hotel capitalises on its historic charm without detracting from modern-day luxury.
Host your wedding in the Jane Austen Suite; wedding packages start from £2016 and its in-house wedding planners can create bespoke packages and wedding menus to meet your specific wedding requirements.
“Planning the special day with the wedding couple is the best bit of my job – the excitement that every couple has is unique.” Nisa Shah, Sales Coordinator.
